While graduating from the Royal Academy of Art in 2020, Sophie Straat first released music in collaboration with producer Wieger Hoogendorp, ’T is niet mijn schuld. This EP earned her an Edison award that same year. Her solo debut album Smartlap is niet dood explored the concept and edges of punk. Her latest work, Wie de fak is Sophie Straat, takes a more experimental turn, blending punk, breakbeat, and hints of bossa nova into a raw, honest collection of tracks reflecting on uncertainty, identity, and systemic critique. Next to taking festival stages by storm and selling out her club tour, Sophie Straat is also behind Protestfest in Amsterdam’s iconic Paradiso; a one-day festival filled with music, talks, and art, focusing on social impact and fund raising for different charities.
